Can lathes be operated at sea? How could you level a shipborn lathe?

"Is it out of line to say I love you?"
No. Love your friends. Love everyone. Make stuff better with the power of finding companionship with others.

You must be more confident when you mic the shaft, since you only check it once. I can get a variance in one out of three and it drives me nuts!

Today I learned that best machines are drop forged in Japan, just like the legendary blacksmiths of times gone by used to make them

Soooo I just got a new lathe, new old lathe that is. In fact it is the same model as Tony's, the mk2, not the mk1.5, so although the same, it lacks the round headed cool factor. Stunning machines those though.
On top of that I have no prior lathe experience....but I guess your video implanted a bug up my ass. So where can I find one of those fancy engineers levels???

i gave my lathe a good talking to about where it really stood in the grand scheme of things, told it that it was important and in some cases near essential which is all good but dont get getting ideas above your station, you're just machinery and you can be got rid of as easily as a washing machine.
                                              thats that lathe levelled.

You can stand a lathe on it's end and do the same job just as will. It's all about twist in the rail. The rail ( or deck) ,has to be straight and true. That's the only thing that matters.

I’ll probably never ever have fun using my machinist level ever again without being haunted by how sad I feel just now ...
